Boss/Handle Shank

This section is for moulds that have no logo, identifying numbers or branding on them, but have some type of boss on the back. Moulds with branding will not be listed here even if they have handle shanks as they are more easily found in the Branding section.

A. C. Gilbert

There were 44 molds produced by the A. C. Gilbert Company. 29 semi flats and 15 slush molds. The square pair of moulds is for pouring solid models while the two round pairs is for pouring slush or "hollow" models. Note that there are two different types of slush moulds:

  • A shank with opposite inside flats called a flatted shank.
  • A shank that is round inside.

So far I have seen the non flatted shank in the earlier moulds at least until S45, with the flatted shank appearing at least in S51. Both round types have notches on the edge of the mould and holes in the shaft for the retaining pin. If you have any models between these two let me know in the comments below which type of shaft you have and I will update this info!

American Craft Mfg.

I have two American Craft Moulds that I am sure are American Craft because I have not been able to find them in any other catalogs. They have Tic-Tac-Toe reinforcement bars across the back of the moulds with the threaded Stud for the handle in the upper ceneter "square". I find it interesting that the mould from American Craft that I can find in REB/Castings is their twin engine Airplane mould. That mould from REB/Castings also has the Tic-Tac-Toe Reinforcement ribs. Typically Home Foundry moulds have the modified X rib pattern.
